Infant hydrocele

    As the fetus develops  , the testes descend from the abdominal cavity into the  bursa through a canal called the peritoneo-vaginal canal. This duct then closes in most cases before birth or during the first months after birth. However, 5% of male children are born without this duct being completely closed allowing serous fluid to flow from the abdomen to the scrotum. Most hydroceles in children go away within the first 12 months. Their persistence, called communicating hydroceles, should allow a surgical procedure to be considered, which consists of opening the bursa, aspirating the liquid and suturing the communication between the bursa and the abdominal cavity. At birth, your baby may have one bursa larger than the other, and if you palpate you may feel a painless, fluid, elastic mass. It is the vaginal hydrocele, a kind of pocket water around the testicle which disappears around 6 months. This hydrocele can exist on both sides, but in no way should you worry about how the testicle is functioning.

If this hydrocele persists after 6 months, or goes away and then comes back, often changes in volume, talk to your doctor. Be aware, however, that infant surgeons only touch it "with the   forced hand " and as late as possible, because the disappearance is almost always spontaneous. The cyst of the cord and the hydrocele  can see are inclusive of all ages  in the newborn . The hydrocele  is manifested as a large purse bluish, painless and sometimes on. ... In the event of a  communicating hydrocele , this swelling can be emptied manually. As is the case with  boy's inguinal hernia ,  cord cyst  and hydrocele of the child are due to the persistence of the peritoneo-vaginal canal. But unlike a hernia, these two pathologies remain benign. After birth, this duct must close. but, in some cases, its persistence may give rise to a passage of peritoneal (abdominal) fluid which may manifest as a hydrocele  or  cord cyst . In communicating hydrocele  by persistence of a fine and total peritoneo-vaginal canal, peritoneal fluid accumulates in the testicular vagina.

How to recognize a cord cyst or a hydrocele?

The  cyst of the cord  and the hydrocele  can see are inclusive of all ages in the newborn.

 The hydrocele  is manifested as a large purse bluish, painless and sometimes on. The purse is transilluminable (light passes through). Its volume is variable over time, sometimes punctuated by viral or infectious episodes in the ENT sphere. In the event of a communicating hydrocele, this swelling can be emptied manually. The  cord cyst  appears as a small lump in the path of the cord. Its volume is variable and can also be under tension as is the case with hydrocele.

Symptoms

The hydrocele  is usually manifested by the more or less significant increase in the volume of one or two scholarships. It is most often not painful, but its presence can be bothersome. In other words, we notice a

  • Unilateral or bilateral increase in testicular volume. Also ;
  • If the swelling is severe, symptoms may appear when sitting or walking.

Causes

The causes of this pathology are among others;

  • Persistence of the peritoneo-vaginal canal (see above)
  • Inflammations of the testes or epididymis - acquired form.
  • Trauma (kicks or kicks) - learned form.
  • Unknown causes

Is there a chance that the hydrocele or cord cyst will heal spontaneously?

Unlike  inguinal hernias , hydrocele  and  cord cyst  can heal on their own and do not become complicated. Their surgical treatment is therefore offered, in general, only beyond 18 months, regardless of the volume.

Medical treatment

Drug

Other than surgery,  there is no medical treatment for hydrocele . But there is an effective treatment with plants, as for recurrences, there is none, or they relate to the other testicle which had not been affected.

Surgery

Surgical treatment is used in children with communicating hydrocele. This technique consists of  incising the bursa, aspirating the liquid and suturing the communication between the bursa and the abdominal cavity .The testicle is a complex organ, particularly sensitive to minor lesions , and extremely sensitive. Any testicular problem can cause immense pain. Testicular pain or the presence of swelling in the testicle are abnormal signs that require medical attention. The diagnosis can never be done at home alone. The problem can be mild or sometimes very serious, going as far as requiring the testicle to be removed.
