What is ankylosing spondylitis

Ankylosing spondylitis is a form of continuous joint inflammation (chronic inflammatory arthritis) that primarily affects the spine. This condition is characterized by back pain and stiffness that usually appears in adolescence or early adulthood. Over time, the movement of the back gradually becomes restricted as the bones of the spine (vertebrae) merge. This progressive bone fusion is called ankylosis.

The first symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis result from inflammation of the joints between the pelvic bones and the base of the spine (the sacrum). These joints are called sacroiliac joints, and the inflammation in these joints is known as sacroiliitis. The inflammation gradually spreads to the joints between the vertebrae, causing a condition called spondyloarthritis. Ankylosing spondylitis can also affect other joints, including the shoulders, hips, and, less often, the knees. As the disease progresses, it can affect the joints between the spine and the ribs, restricting chest movement and making deep breathing difficult. People with

Ankylosing spondylitis affects the eyes in up to 40% of cases, resulting in episodes of eye inflammation called acute iritis . Acute iritis causes eye pain and increased sensitivity to light (photophobia). Rarely, ankylosing spondylitis can also cause serious complications affecting the heart, lungs and nervous system.

What is turmeric

Turmeric is a spice that comes from the turmeric plant. It is commonly used in Asian cuisine. You probably know that turmeric is the main spice in curry. It has a hot and bitter taste and is frequently used to flavor or color curry powders, mustards, butters and cheeses. But turmeric root is also widely used to make medicine. It contains a yellow-colored chemical called curcumin, which is often used to color foods and cosmetics.

Turmeric is commonly used for conditions involving pain and inflammation, such as osteoarthritis . It is also used for hay fever, depression, high cholesterol, a type of liver disease, and itching. Some people use turmeric for heartburn, thinking and memory skills, inflammatory bowel disease, stress, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses. .

Effects of turmeric on ankylosing spondylitis

Turmeric is an herb that is not only used as an herbal medicine for ankylosing spondylitis, but is also often used to treat abnormalities in the bones. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory abilities which are helpful in relieving inflammation of the spine. Not to mention that the anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric can also prevent complications because the inflammation spreads to the lungs or other parts of the body.

  • Turmeric, an unparalleled antioxidant

Curcumin and curcuminoids are active and particularly powerful antioxidant components. Both participate in the elimination of free radicals stored in our body. By acting against these harmful substances, the active principles of turmeric make it possible to limit the aging of cells.

Free radicals are favored by internal and external factors such as stress, pollution or the consumption of tobacco and alcohol. The active principles of turmeric help the body to detoxify and protect itself from external but also internal aggressions (acidity of meals, stress, etc.)

  • A powerful anti-inflammatory

Turmeric has been used in traditional medicine for a long time, especially because of its anti-inflammatory properties. The root of the plant is able to relieve pain caused by chronic inflammation such as tendonitis , lumbago, osteoarthritis and rheumatism. Turmeric is shown to be as effective in preventing as it is in relieving pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis.

Scientific studies have been able to demonstrate the regenerating virtues of turmeric and the benefits of its use during tendonitis or following an accident or a sports injury. Turmeric and its curcumin increase recovery capacities and reduce muscle and joint pain. These substances would also improve the circulation of the blood and therefore the scarring.

  • Turmeric, benefactor of the digestive system

Scientists have demonstrated the benefits for the digestive system. The plant allows in particular to fight against gallstones, liver diseases and other diseases related to the functioning of the liver. The root of the plant therefore helps to promote digestion by increasing bile secretions. Turmeric offers a certain intestinal comfort on a daily basis and can be associated with the consumption of aloevera juice to optimize its effects.

In addition, the plant is also able to act against the effects of drug or food poisoning. Its effects are also beneficial in the fight against constipation, inflammation of the intestine, gastroenteritis, digestive pain or even infectious diarrhea. Turmeric is often part of food rebalancing programs, because of its ability to participate in the destocking of fat via the liver as well as to rebalance the intestinal flora.

  • Increased energy levels

If this does not generally correspond to the first effects sought during its consumption, turmeric, by its beneficial action on the digestive system, is able to increase the energy levels of the body.

Indeed, our digestive system is energy intensive and can monopolize up to 90% of our physical energy. By improving our digestion and the general functioning of the digestive system, turmeric therefore also indirectly increases energy levels and therefore our vitality.
